Marathon Aqua Ranch and Symbiologics (MARS) was conceptualized to advance the fields of aquaculture and sustainable fishing in the United States. We have designed a plan to educate the public through eco tours and hands on participation throughout our facility.We have 20 large tanks for displaying indigenous marine life which enable us to offer educational field trips and other sanctioned tours from around the country. We believe that children need to learn about the operations of fisheries and aquaculture for the food industry in light of our expected population growth in the coming generations. We believe uniting the fishing and aquaculture industries will help sustain wild fish stocks in the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. Being located in the Florida Keys facilitates the efforts of education through tourism as well as restocking fisheries in both waters.
Our Fish
Symbiology is the study of symbiosis- living together in cooperation so that all parties benefit from the relationship. Here at MARS we are uniting aquaculture and agriculture, with plans to grow everything we need on our 47 acres of land, 7 of which are a land-locked salt water lake. We will process the waste from our aquaculture efforts to create an organic, disease-suppressive, controlled microbial compost for the gardens. The gardens, in turn, shall provide vegetative sustenance for humans and supplements for the fish and other aquatic species in the lake. Read more about this exciting concept on the education page.
